Problems

  • I had to rework the bat monster from the old Dreamcast game. It was idling until a player came into sight, then it would start following them. It was cool, but not enough for our next-gen game.

  • Then I thought, why is the bat alone?

Solutions

  • I added more movement, attacks, and free will.

  • I created the Bat-Nest, a place where bats fly in groups, deciding on their own whether to join or leave flying bat groups, attack players, or just go away and rest a bit.

High Concept

Explore a mysterious island, solve puzzles, and battle enemies to uncover a hidden truth.

Context

In our third year, as part of our Bachelor's, we worked in a 22-person team using a remake-based methodology: analyze, deconstruct, and rebuild.

My Work

I started by analyzing all entity data (monster stats, food types, etc.) with a teammate, figuring out stats, values, and gameplay impact through observation. This groundwork helped us balance the game later on.

In the next phase, I contributed to ideation, narrative design, and core gameplay design.

Finally, I focused on AI prototyping. I built the behavior of a bat monster in Unity using Playmaker, collaborating with two 3D animators.

I wrote everything in the technical design document.

Conclusion

This project sharpened my system analysis and prototyping skills, and taught me how to adapt within a large team.
